SYDNEY, March 31 (Xinhua) -- A huge private collection of war memorabilia, including torpedoes and army tanks, will be auctioned off over the weekend, commencing Friday.

The Cowra War, Rail and Rural Museum, 310 km west of Sydney, will off load over 2,500 items.

The collection's owner, Ron Horsfall, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that he "had fun collecting," but at 77 years of age the business was too hard to maintain.

Horsfall said he had collected items for the museum for almost 50 years.

Over 1 million Australian dollars (770,000 U.S. dollars) are expected to be made from the sell off.

The museum officially closed in February due to a lowering number of visitors.
