EU adopt measures to reduce road fatalities

VALLETTA, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Transport Ministers of the Member States of the European Union on Wednesday endorsed the Valletta Declaration on Road Safety to reduce the number of road deaths in the EU.

Transport Ministers have agreed on enhanced cooperation between Member States regarding road safety planning and risk-based strategies.

They have also agreed on the development of safer road infrastructure, as well as the possibility of expanding and integrating reduced speed limits, such as 30 km per hour in high-risk areas.

Post-collision care, early rehabilitation and social re-integration of road traffic accident victims in cooperation with relevant public policy stakeholders have also been agreed.

"I can confidently state that road safety is once again at the top of the agenda across Europe," said Joe Mizzi, Maltese Minister for Transport and Infrastructure.
