YANGON, March 28 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical team launched a rescue action plan at a children hospital in Yankin township in Myanmar's former capital of Yangon Tuesday to screen 50 congenital heart-disease children for them to be sent to Beijing for treatment.
The Chinese medical team arrived in Yangon from Beijing late on Monday on its first ever transnational love trip of its kind aimed at saving children in Myanmar suffering from such disease.
The action plan is jointly sponsored by the China Charity Federation and Beijing An Zhen Hospital and is organized by the Chinese Media Circle Charity Promotion Association (MCCPA) in cooperation with the Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports.
Speaking at the launching ceremony at the Yankin Children's Hospital, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein said the cooperation program is not only part of Myanmar-China friendly cooperation but also a bridge linking Myanmar's medical sciene with Chinese treatment. The Chinese medical aid has opened a new page for the friendship between the two countries.
As Myanmar is a friendly neighbor of China, Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang said China will help Myanmar with its need and the program would promote the China-Myanmar paukphaw (fraternal) friendship.
Head of Yankin Children Hospital Dr. Myint Myint Khine said she takes pride for turning the unhealthy children to healthy ones, praising China's Belt and Road initiative.
Leader of the medical team Xu Yixuan, who is also the chief executive of the MCCPA and an initiator of the action plan, said the congenital heart disease is a deadly one and China is extending its helping hand to Myanmar for the treatment as part of the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative.
A female patient, aged 16 and named Ma Khaing Tazin Thant, expressed thanks to the Chinese medical team for the arranged treatment, while two other patients' guardians also expressed gratitude for having the opportunities to undergo treatment.
According to the sponsor, the selected 50 child patients will be sent in batches to Beijing for treatment free of charge.
