DPRK expresses wish to strengthen ties with Bangladesh

PYONGYANG, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Sunday expressed its wish to strengthen ties with Bangladesh as the South Asian nation celebrated the 46th anniversary of independence.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of greeting to Abdul Hamid, president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, on the occasion of the Independence Day, said the Korean Central News Agency.

Kim in the message expressed belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen in conformity with common interests, and wished the president great success in the work for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh gained independence in 1971 after fighting a partition war with Pakistan.
