MADRID, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Spanish rescue services on Friday recovered the body of a second fisherman who had been missing since the boat he was working on sank following a collision with a Russian cargo vessel near Barcelona on Monday, Spanish media reported.
The El Fairell, which had a four-man crew, sank in around 170 meters of water after being struck by the 140-meter-long MID Volga 2, which was leaving Barcelona at the time.
Two crew members, Xavi and Ricard Huguert, were rescued by Russian ship crew, but 34-year-old Moroccan Mfeddal Sarghini and 37-year-old Senegalese Cheikhou Mane disappeared.
The depth at which the El Fairell sank meant it was too deep for divers from the Civil Guard to reach the wreckage and the search was carried out by rescue vessels with the help of a helicopter and a robot submarine.
Sarghini's body was recovered on Thursday, while the body of Mane was discovered at around 2:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT) on Friday morning and brought to the surface at around 4:45 a.m. (0345 GMT).
The captain and the first officer of the MID Volga 2 are now being investigated for negligence in relation to the accident and are due to be questioned by a judge in Barcelona.
