LANZHOU, March 24 (Xinhua) -- A trade fair focusing on the Belt and Road Initiative will open in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, early July, the provincial government said Friday.

The 23rd Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair is scheduled from July 6 to 9, with the theme of the mutual benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative, said Zhang Yinghua, head of the Gansu Commerce Department.

Representatives of government, chambers of commerce, major companies and investors along the Belt and Road have been invited to the fair, which will include forums on cooperation, trade and investment along the routes, said Zhang.

Under the Road and Belt initiative, China is accelerating its opening up to the west and inland Gansu Province has become an important player.

Lanzhou Fair, initiated in 1993, has become an important platform for opening up in northwestern China. A record value of contracts, 760 billion yuan (110 billion U.S. dollars) in total, were signed last year at the fair, up 9.1 percent from the year before.
