COPENHAGEN, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen announced on Friday that he would meet with U.S. President Donald Trump next Thursday at the White House in Washington DC.
Ramussen said in a statement that successive presidents have prioritized the friendship and cooperation between Denmark and the United States.
"This meeting confirms that Denmark and the United States remain close allies," Rasmussen said.
"I look forward to discussions with the President on how we can maintain and expand the good relationship between our two countries," he added.
As the world's largest economy, the United States is a major export market for Denmark, which exported goods worth about 120 billion Danish kroner (17.4 billion U.S. dollars) to the country last year.
"We have a strong economic partnership. Therefore, cooperation with the United States is important for Denmark," Rasmussen said in the statement.
