MADRID, March 23 (Xinhua) -- King Felipe VI of Spain on Thursday sent a telegram of condolence over Wednesday's London terror attack that left four victims and the perpetrator of the attack dead and dozens injured outside the British Parliament.

"Spain feels very close to the United Kingdom in these moments of pain," read the telegram sent to Queen Elizabeth II and signed by the King, who said he was "upset... by the news of the tragic terrorist attack on Westminster Bridge in London."

He sent his "deepest regrets," while expressing "rejection for this despicable act, which goes against basic values."

"Along with the Queen (Letizia), I am sending our solidarity and support to the families of the victims along with our desire for the injured to recover as soon as possible and for normality to return to life in London," read the telegram.

Felipe also led a minute's silence held at the Spanish Royal Palace in Madrid ahead of King Felipe's programmed audience with members of the military.

That minute's silence was repeated by deputies on the steps of the Spanish Congress building and also outside of the Supreme Court in Madrid, while the country's major political parties all issued statements condemning the attack which injured people from 11 different countries.

Meanwhile, Spanish Interior Minister, Juan Ignacio Zoido confirmed via social media that Spain will remain on a level 4 anti-terror alert, unchanged since June 26th 2015. Level 4 is a high-level alert and the country would only move onto level 5 if security forces was aware of an imminent attack on Spanish soil. Enditem
