SKOPJE, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Some 65.5 percent of Macedonian citizens believe the snap elections of Dec. 11 failed to resolve the two-year political crisis in the country, a poll conducted by the Institute for Political Research (IPIS) showed Thursday.

As such, around 45.8 percent of the voters were in favor of holding new general elections in the country, considering the move to be crucial to settling the political crisis, the poll showed.

On the other hand, 23.2 percent of citizens believed the elections brought a desired result, while 11.3 percent had no opinion.

According to the poll, some 35.5 percent believed President Gjorge Ivanov should give the mandate to form a government to the head of Social Democratic Union party (SDSM), Zoran Zaev.

Zaev is currently waiting for the head of state to change his decision and pave the way to the formation of a SDSM-led government.

Ivanov refused to mandate Zaev as PM-designate after SDSM adopted the platform of the ethnic Albanian parties here, which foresees wider usage of the Albanian language in Macedonia.

While Zaev waits for the mandate to be given to him by the president, the head of the conservative party VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevki, is calling for snap general elections, saying that citizens should have their say again, now that the party platforms have been unveiled.
