DUBLIN, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of overseas trips to Ireland rose by 7.2 percent to over 2.1 million during the last quarter of 2016, when compared with the same period in 2015, according to official figures on Thursday.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures showed that the number of nights spent in Ireland by overseas travellers increased by 7.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the same period of the previous year, up from 12.8 million to 13.8 million.
The average duration of overseas trips to Ireland stayed the same at 6.4 nights in both the fourth quarters of 2015 and 2016.
Between the two quarters, spending by overseas travellers increased by 7.5 percent to 1.23 billion euros (1.33 billion U.S. dollars).
Last year, over 9.5 million trips were made to Ireland by overseas visitors, an increase of 10.9 percent on 2015, with more than six billion euros spent in the country. (1 euro=1.08 U.S. dollars) Enditem
