DPRK congratulates Pakistan on 70th independence anniversary

PYONGYANG, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Thursday congratulated Pakistan on the 70th anniversary of its independence from British colonial rule which fell on the same day.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of greeting to Mamnoon Hussain, president of Pakistan, on Pakistan Day, the Korean Central News Agency said.

"The message wished the Pakistani president bigger success in his work for the country's prosperity and social stability, expressing belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to favorably develop in conformity with the common interests and desire of the two peoples," it said.

Pakistan gained independence from British colonial rule on March 23, 1947.
