YANGON, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Yangon municipal authorities is planning to invite tenders to run its owned 43 enterprises to ensure their effectiveness, the official Global New Light of Myanmar rported Thursday.
The enterprises, to be granted for lease in the next fiscal year of 2017-18, are collection of vehicle entrance fee, public toilet at markets, aquatic feedstuff business and golf driving range business, the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) was quoted as saying.
The YCDC will also privatize the garbage collection work in Yangon city which will be handed over to private enterprises under contracts, according to Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe.
Yangon region produces over 2,500 tons of rubbish daily and the municipal authorities is performing its daily garbage collection routines at a loss of about 13.3 million kyats (over 10,000 U.S. dollars) per day, according to statistics.
The committee employs 4,000 sanitation workers who collect trash from over 8,000 dustbins and nearly 3,000 trolleys using more than 450 dust collecting vehicles.
The committee is also making efforts to apply a waste collection system for Yangon through a public-private partnership which will utilize the latest collection technology to create a cleaner and healthier environment for the former capital city.
