ABUJA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-three people died and eight others sustained injuries on Wednesday when a van rolled into a ditch and caught fire in Nigeria's northwestern state of Kebbi.
Garba Salihu, a local district official who confirmed the incident to Xinhua, said the incident involved a van full of traders and a motorcycle.
According to him, 22 among the dead were traders returning from a local market.
He said the van hit the motorcycle rider and overturned while trying to avoid a pothole on the Tunga Giwa-Ruwa road in the state's Shanga district.
Kebbi State governor Atiku Bagudu said the injured are receiving free treatment at a state-run health facility. Enditem
