HANOI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Department of Animal Health under Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) announced on Wednesday that it is proposing the ministry to suspend Brazil-imported meat for risk of food insecurity.

As soon as learning that some meat factories in Brazil have used unsafe substances in production process, the department has urged local animal health authorities in border gates to enhance controlling quality of poultry and cattle meat imported from Brazil.

If any products by major meat-packing companies in Brazil, such as JBS SA and BRF SA, are detected, import quarantine should be suspended, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted the department as saying.

Since the beginning of 2017, Vietnam has imported around 3,000 tons of meat and related products from Brazil, according to MARD.
