ISLAMABAD, March 22 (Xinhua) -- At least two security personnel and five militants were killed during an exchange of firing between the insurgents and the troops in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Orakzai Agency on Wednesday, the army said.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the mouthpiece of Pakistani army, said in a statement that the exchange of firing was triggered off when security forces launched an operation to hunt down the militants in the agency.

Forces killed five militants belonging to banned organizations during the operation.

The killed militants also included a commander who was sent from Afghanistan with a special task to target religious gatherings, said the statement.

Wednesday's operation was a continuation of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad which was kicked off in February this year after a series of terrorist attacks left over 100 people killed and more than 300 others injured in the country.

The operation aims at eliminating the terrorism and ensuring the security of Pakistan's borders.
