VIENTIANE, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Lao archery team is optimistic about their medal prospects as they train in the lead up to the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia in August.

Men and women archers have been training at the Lao National Sports Center in Lao capital Vientiane with Coach Bounhom Siliphon, according to local daily Vientiane Times on Wednesday.

As part of their preparations for the SEA Games, Lao Archery Federation is holding a national level event in Vientiane in May to test archers' skills and make selections for the national team.

The SEA Games will see three men and one woman from Laos competing in the 70-meter recurve event, while three men and one woman will compete in the 50-meter compound event.

Lao archers would have their best opportunity in the compound event but would find it more difficult in the recurve event, said Vice President of Lao Archery Federation Kasem Inthala.

Meanwhile, from this Wednesday to next Monday, Lao archers will compete in the men's compound event at the Asian Grand Prix World Ranking tournament in Thailand.

The Lao team went without medals at the 28th SEA Games in Singapore in 2015 but won a gold medal in the mixed doubles compound event at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar in 2013.
