VIENNA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Minister of Defense Hans Peter Doskozil on Tuesday expressed skepticism over a potential refugee deal with Libya, which is similar to that was struck with Turkey.

According to an Austria Press Agency report, the minister cited the present political uncertainty as grounds for his view.

He suggested processing centers be established in more stable countries, rather than sending large sums of money to the UN-backed regime in Libya.

The latter just on Monday asked for 800 million euros (865 million U.S. dollars) worth of equipment in order to stem the flow of refugees across the Mediterranean.

Doskozil further renewed calls for increased border protection measures along the Western Balkans migration route that he claimed is still not fully closed.

The Austrian Armed Forces are prepared to assist in this process, with Serbia having already asked for assistance.

Necessary amendments to an act that would allow Austrian troops to engage in border protection efforts in foreign countries still need to be passed. Enditem
