VIENNA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Austrian enterprises increased their spending on research and development (R&D) by over nine percent from 2013 to 2015, to take the total to 6.6 billion euros (7.1 billion U.S. dollars), Statistics Austria revealed on Tuesday.
The preliminary results from the statistics office mean the increase in R&D spending is notably higher than that of economic growth in the country, that increased a nominal 5.4 percent over the same period.
This also took R&D spending from 1.86 percent of GDP in 2013 to 1.94 percent in 2015, and marks almost a doubling of this figure since 1998.
Statistics Austria further revealed that about 4.54 billion euros of the 2015 R&D total came from the "production of goods" sector of the economy.
A further 667 million euros came from public funds, while just over one billion euros came from sources outside of Austria. Enditem
