U.S. ex-Secretary of State visits Latvia for investment opportunities: report

RIGA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Latvia to explore investment and business opportunities in the Baltic country, Latvian public media website lsm.lv reported on Tuesday.

During his private trip to Latvia, Kerry inquired about the success of Latvia's Citadele Bank, which is owned by a consortium of U.S. entrepreneurs, as well as met with Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the Latvian government, the meeting focused on latest developments in the global economy and potential economic cooperation between Latvia and the U.S.

In an interview with Latvian public television, Kerry said he wanted to learn more about Latvia's development plans and how Latvia is going to enhance its business environment.

Special attention during the talks was paid to Latvian-U.S. cooperation in areas like IT, food exports and financial services. The government said in the statement that Latvia is ready to attract large U.S. investors.

In an interview with LETA news agency, Kerry described Latvia as a "great place to invest" and a "place where something is happening".
