Source: Xinhua   2017-03-21 23:43:45

ISTANBUL, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish Airlines confirmed on Tuesday that it is subjected to a U.S. ban on passengers carrying electronic devices larger than cell phones on U.S.-bound flights from Istanbul.

"It has been decided by the relevant authorities that electronic devices larger than a cell phone or smart phone must not be transported on board in our flights to the U.S. destinations," said the airlines in a statement.

Electronics other than medical devices can be carried in cargo compartment on the flights, the statement noted.

An official from the airlines told Xinhua that the open-ended new regulation would take into effect within four days. "We had been given 96 hours of notice," the official said. "In that case the due date would be Friday on March 24."

The U.S. imposed the ban on nine airlines from eight countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, citing unspecified terror threat, according to press reports.
