BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Three points in the seventh end secured a sweet 7-5 win for the United States over hosts China at World Women's Curling Championships here on Tuesday while defending champions Switzerland extended their losing streak to three games after falling to Czech Republic and Sweden on the same day.
China swallowed their fifth defeat of the event in the evening when facing the United States as Chinese players admitted their opponents well deserved the win.
"We played with them before, but the results were not very great," said the second player Liu Jinli of China, "They stayed calm during the game today, and didn't make many mistakes."
"We had two games today and felt not so good both mentally and physically in the game at night," Liu added.
2009 world champions China claimed their second victory of the tournament in the afternoon, beating Denmark 7-5 who were still striving for their first win in the afternoon.
With only two wins after seven rounds, China only hold a very slim chance of advancing to the knockout stage.
Switzerland suffered their third consecutive defeat after starting the tournament with a four-game winning streak. The northern European team Sweden earned three points in each of the first and fifth ends to gain the upper hand and eventually sealed the match 9-4.
Early in the afternoon, Switzerland were beaten by Czech Republic 10-7 after the latter scored three points in the ninth end.
"The two games today were very tough for us, last long time and we didn't take the lead from the beginning. And we didn't fit the ice well today," said the skip of Switzerland Nicole Schwagli, "But it's okay, every team face kinds of troubles and we will focus on our games tomorrow."
Sochi Olympics winners Canada maintained their unbeaten run in the campaign. They won their sixth and seventh games over South Korea and Scotland 9-8 and 8-2 respectively. Enditem
