BEIJING -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Beijing on Monday, vowing to advance innovation cooperation.

Li suggested the two sides to beef up cooperation in areas of basic science, modern agriculture, clean energy and biomedicine.

NANCHANG -- China's largest freshwater lake, Poyang Lake in eastern China's Jiangxi Province, starts a three-month fishing ban at noon Monday.

The local government initiated the ban, which lasts from March to June, in 2002 as a move to protect fish during the spawning season.

All fishing and related activities that can threaten fish and the lake environment will be banned during the moratorium, according to officials with the provincial fishery administration. xhne.ws/mhrTn

SYDNEY -- With the official launch of the China-Australia Year of Tourism in February at Sydney's iconic Opera House, Australian tourism chief said here on Tuesday that one of the strongest ties between the two countries lies within the burgeoning tourism market.

GENEVA -- Ma Zhaoxu, head of the Chinese mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Monday called upon international community to improve global human rights governance.

"In a globalized world, countries are increasingly interconnected in their interests with a shared destiny. However, global challenges pose threats to the well-being of people of all countries," he addressed at a general debate in the 34th Session of the Human Rights Council, on behalf of a cross-regional group of 36 developing countries.
