YANGON, March 21(Xinhua) -- Myanmar will start construction of Yangon-Dala cross-river bridge to pave a way from downtown of Yangon to Dala, an underdeveloped small town on the outskirts of the city in April this year, Ministry of Information announced on Tuesday.

Aimed at providing better transportation services and raising the socio-economic status of local residents, the bridge will be built at a cost of 168.174 million U.S. dollars.

The project will be funded with a loan of 137.833 million U.S. dollars from South Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund which was agreed between Ministry of Commerce and Korea Eximbank (KEXIM) in 2015.

The project will be completed by the fiscal year 2020-21.

The four-lane bridge will be 1,936 feet (590.1 meters) long, 160 feet high and 823 feet wide. It will link Phonegyi Street in Lanmadaw township with Bo Min Yaung Street in Dala.

It will also feature water pump lines to distribute water from Yangon to Dala as water shortage always occurs in Dala every summer.
