PYONGYANG, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Tuesday said the issue of sexual slavery by the Japanese imperialists during World War II will continue to be tabled as an important agenda in world politics.
The daily Minju Joson (Democratic Korea) newspaper mentioned in an article that a girl statue of peace, symbolic of the crimes related to the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army, was erected in a park in Germany's southern state of Bavaria on March 8.
Girl statues of peace have been erected in the United States, Canada, Australia and China and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific, but it is the first time that it was built in Europe, it said.
"This hints that the issue of the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army will continue to be tabled as an important agenda in the world politics and more girl statues will be erected in different parts of the world," said the paper.
It said Japan is "sensitively reacting to any slightest moves revealing its dark intention as it abhors admitting its past crimes and fears facing justice."
"The fact that more statues are appearing despite Japan's desperate efforts to check their erection suggests something big to the people," it said, adding that Japan's redemption of its past is "not only the will of history but also an unanimous demand of the international community."
Japan forced hundreds of thousands of women from Korea, China, The Netherlands, the Philippines and other countries into sexual slavery for its aggressor army during World War II.
