ACCRA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana in collaboration with Chinese enterprises in Ghana on Saturday hosted a campus recruitment fair for graduates and students, with 230 positions from 35 Chinese enterprises operating in Ghana up for grabs.

Mei meilian, director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Ghana told Xinhua that more than 1,000 applicants attended the fair.

"It is the first attempt by the Confucius Institute to connect the Chinese enterprises and university students as well as the general public," Mei said.

Chai Zhijing, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, praised the Confucius Institute and authorities at the University for the initiative, and encouraged more such events.

The Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana Professor Samuel Kwame Offei said the program complements the efforts that the university is making to bring its students close to industry and opportunities.

"We think that this is a very laudable idea and we are very pleased that the Confucius Institute has decided to organize this fair and we hope that it will be an annual event that they will continue to organize on yearly basis to bring all organizations to the doorstep of our students."

For John Jiang, who works with Wynca Sunshine, a Chinese firm dealing in agro-chemical products, said the fair is a good opportunity to introduce their company and products to Ghanaians and also to attract more talent to work for them.

"The response has been very good. We have received almost 50 CVs," he said.

Jennifer Amoadua Endoo, an officer of Caitec Delta Limited, believes the fair will help her company hire competent people.

"That is basically why we decided to join this program. I think we can get something good out of what is going on today." she said.
