RIO DE JANEIRO, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Cristovao Borges has been sacked as coach of Brazil's Vasco da Gama after a poor run of results, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Friday.
The announcement followed Vasco's 1-0 loss to Vitoria in the third-round of the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday.
"Vasco appreciate the work done by (Cristovao), who always showed great dedication," the club said in a brief statement.
Borges, 57, led the four-time Brazilian Serie A champions to five wins, four losses and two draws during his second spell in charge of the club.
Among those in the running to replace him are former Real Madrid and Brazil boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo, journeyman manager Ricardo Gomes and Rogerio Micale, who led Brazil to the football gold medal at last year's Rio Olympics.
