KIEV, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Friday ruled out the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections despite the calls made by some political forces.

"I do not support the snap parliamentary elections ...so it's never going to happen," Poroshenko said in his address to the nation.

He said that the current parliament, which took office in October 2014, has enough time to give an impetus to the development of Ukraine before its term expires in 2019.

"We have two years to accelerate and maintain economic growth on the basis of the achieved macro-financial and macro-economic stabilization," Poroshenko emphasized.

He has urged the country's policy makers to learn lessons of history and join hands for the sake of Ukraine instead of continuing political squabbles.

In the recent months, opposition parties have repeatedly urged the president to call the snap elections, arguing that currently there is a lack of understanding between the parliamentary forces.

According to the Ukrainian law, only the president has the right to dissolve parliament if needed.
