PNA welcomes UN report accusing Israel of imposing "apartheid regime" on Palestinians

Source: Xinhua   2017-03-17 05:32:47

RAMALLAH, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) welcomed Thursday a UN report accusing Israel of imposing "apartheid regime" on Palestinians, according to a PNA statement.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) report must wake the Israelis up before they "sink into a regime of apartheid," said the statement.

It was the first time a UN body had clearly made the charge, the UN agency said.

The PNA said that the report "rings the bell of a real danger," adding that the Israeli community has to wake up and pressure on its government to stop its occupation, settlement and its racist practices.

The PNA reiterated that the UN report "is so important because it reflects part of the reality of Palestinians' daily suffering due to the Israeli measures and practices."

Israel and the United States opposed the ESCWA report and demanded withdrawal of it.

ESCWA, based in Beirut, Lebanon, comprises 18 Arab states, the state of Palestine a full member of it.
