PNA says Lieberman remarks on PLO's National Fund violates Oslo accords

Source: Xinhua   2017-03-17 03:42:12

RAMALLAH, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinians slammed Thursday Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman's remarks on the National Fund of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) that it is a "terrorist organization."

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas bureau in Ramallah said in an official statement, published by (WAFA) news agency, these remarks violate Oslo peace accords signed between the PLO and Israel in 1993.

"The PLO National Fund (PNF) is one of the PLO establishments and it acts in accordance with the signed agreements and the international criteria under accurate transparency and international observation," said the statement.

Abbas bureau's statement said the remarks were made as the United States is talking to all parties amid the presence of Jason Greenblatt, who was assigned to chair the Middle East talks to find a proper atmosphere for peace.

"This is an Israeli attempt to obstruct and undermine the American efforts for making peace in the Middle East," said the statement, adding "the Palestinian leadership certainly rejects and condemns these remarks."

Abbas Bureau called on the international community "to reject and denounce these remarks in order to keep the peace accords sponsored by the United States and the entire world."

Earlier on Thursday, Lieberman stated, according to Israeli Radio, that the PNF "is a terrorist organization that finances elements which practice terrorist activities against Israel."

Lieberman's office said in a statement, according to the Radio, that the PNF moves millions of Shekels, Israeli currency, to hundreds of prisoners imprisoned in Israeli jails as well as to their families.
