Madagascar's Ahmad new CAF President

ADDIS ABABA, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Madagascar's Ahmad Ahmad was elected as the new President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at the continental football governing body's 39th General Assembly here on Thursday.

Ahmad replaced long-serving Issa Hayatou of Cameroon, who has been in power since 1988, for the presidency. Ahmad won the election 34 to Hayatou's 20.

Ahmad, 57, is the president of the Madagascar Football Association.

In his 29-year ruling, Hayatou has been challenged only twice, but managing to win by big margins in 2000 and 2004. Enditem
