TOKYO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended marginally higher Thursday as earlier losses on the yen's strength were erased on hopes of further easing measures from the Bank of Japan at the conclusion of its two-day policy meeting.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 12.76 points, or 0.07 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 19,590.14.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, crept 1.38 points, or 0.09 percent higher to finish at 1,572.69.

Notable issues that gained by the close of play comprised marine transportation and nonferrous metal issues. Those that lost ground were led by bank and insurance-linked stocks.

Advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 1,235 to 630, on the First Section and trading volume on the main section increased to 1,796.51 million shares, up from Wednesday's volume of 1,650.20 million shares.
