MADRID, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Athletic Club Bilbao goalkeeper Alex Remiro had to be rushed to hospital on Wednesday after being knocked unconscious during the club's morning training session.

Remiro, who is third choice keeper after returning from a loan spell with second division leaders, Levante in January, was hit in the head by a close range shot by striker Inaki Williams and after being treated at Athletic's Lezama training ground, he was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

The Athletic Club website confirms that Remiro suffered a "cranial trauma", but added that "he is conscious and has been taken to a health center where he will undergo the appropriate tests."

The local press reports that Remiro was at first unable to remember anything about the incident.

"It was a huge scare for us," commented midfielder Benat Etxebarria in the club's midday press conference. "it was a really hard blow to the head from the ball, but we think he' s going to be OK," he continued.

The incident comes less than a fortnight after Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres was knocked out in a Liga Santander game away to Deportivo la Coruna, needing to spend a night in hospital and miss his side's two subsequent games as a result on the incident.
