TEHRAN, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh said that Iran will emerge as the world's major zinc supplier thanks to the projects to be implemented soon, semi-official Fars news agency reported on Wednesday.
"A new zinc mining project in Iran has been recently awarded to a consortium of Iranian companies and is expected to enable the country to supply at least 4 percent of the world's total demand for the strategic metal once completed within the next few years," Nematzadeh was quoted as saying.
The project was awarded by the state-owned Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization to the consortium led by Mobin Mining and Construction Company, according to the report.
Iran is among major mineral-rich countries in the world. The most important mines in Iran namely coal, metallic minerals, sand and gravel, chemical minerals and salt.
