Danish PM vows support to NATO

COPENHAGEN, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen said on Wednesday that the alliance of NATO is essential and Denmark is a trustworthy ally to contribute when there is a need.

Rasumssen made the remarks ahead of his meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, scheduled in Copenhagen on Friday.

"The threats against the West is growing, the fight against terrorism is long and demanding, and the conflicts are knocking on Europe's doorstep," the prime minister said in a press release.

"Our alliance is essential. Denmark is a trustworthy ally who always puts up when the need is there," Rasmussen said.

During the meeting, Rasmussen and Stoltenberg will discuss expectations for the upcoming NATO summit, counter-terrorism, Russia and the Danish military contribution to NATO operations, according to the press release.

"I am looking forward to meeting with NATO Secretary General to discuss how we ensure the future confidence of the alliance's members and create a more peaceful world," he added.
