TOKYO, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as Wall Street closing lower overnight dampened investor sentiment, while many investors hit the sidelines ahead of the conclusion of the U.S. Federal Reserve's two-day policy meeting later in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 57.78 points, or 0.29 percent, from Tuesday to 19,551.72.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.68 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,569.22.
Notable decliners by the morning break comprised oil and coal product, mining, and iron and steel-linked stocks.
