TORUN, Poland, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Experts have urged the development of infrastructure and tourism in Poland at the 24th Welconomy Forum which ended here on Tuesday.

The two-day event covered European integration, creating a cooperation platform, supporting business and creativity and promoting Polish entrepreneurs worldwide. Poland's participation in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative was also among the important topics in the forum.

One of the discussed topics was infrastructure development. Pawel Bukowski, an administrative official responsible for economy, emphasized that much is to be done to improve Poland's cargo infrastructure, which is still far behind the countries such as the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

Despite the constant development of Polish marine harbors, the railway is still not developed enough to ensure effective cargo transport, Bukowski said.

Marceli Burdelski from the Eastern Asia Studies Center at Gdansk University, emphasized that the railway connection between China and Poland was an important logistic link.

In addition, Jerzy Kendziora of the Poland-China Friendship Association, pointed out that another crucial cooperation field was tourism.

Kendziora noted that more and more Chinese citizens were travelling abroad annually, with an increasing number of visitors coming to Poland.

Poland should do more to attract them, said Kendziora. Representatives of Chinese tourism agencies have been invited to get to know the country, its cultural heritage and regional cuisine.

The forum was organized by the Torun-based Integration and Cooperation Association which was founded in 2000. It included more than 20 panel discussions, covering topics from regional and international cooperation to economy and culture.
