LUSAKA, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Typhoid has broken out in northwestern Zambia's Mushindando district, with two people killed so far while 11 have been hospitalized, health authorities said on Tuesday.

District Health Director Sefuke Mulenga said the water-borne disease has broken out in remote areas of the district.

"There has actually been a number of cases from which two people have died and we are suspecting typhoid and mostly these cases are coming from Luamala in Mushindanao district," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Nation.

Water samples have since been collected from the area for further analysis at a provincial hospital, he added.
