TOKYO, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as investor sentiment was bolstered by robust U.S. jobs data, which fueled hopes the U.S. Federal Reserve may hike its interests rates earlier than expected.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 29.14 points, or 0.15 percent, from Friday to finish at 19,633.75.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 3.39 points, or 0.22 percent, to close at 1,577.40.

Issues that notably closed in positive territory comprised air transportation, information and communication, and land transportation-linked stocks.

Advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 998 to 849 on the First Section and trading volume on Monday totaled 1,471.80 million shares, down from Friday's volume of 2,267.16 million shares.

The total turnover on the first trading day of the week came to 1,772 billion yen (15.46 billion U.S. dollars).
