Sydney FC take on Mariners in Round 23

Source: Xinhua   2017-03-10 17:13:31

SYDNEY, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Round 23 action in Australia's A-League football kicks off on Friday 19:50 (AEDT), when the competition leaders Sydney FC take on the Central Coast Mariners at home.

Although the derby is often a spirited affair, Sydney FC are expected to demolish the second-last placed Mariners.

The match of the round will come Saturday 19:50 (AEDT), with the Melbourne Victory playing host to Perth Glory.

After losing the highly anticipated match against Sydney FC last week, the league's top goal scoring Besart Berisha and the Victory will be looking to fire in front of home fans.

However the Glory have been impressive this season and after putting three goals past the Wellington Phoenix last week, they may prove hard to contain.

The second Saturday fixture, 19:50 (AEDT), sees Melbourne City face the Newcastle Jets at home and despite the Jets good performances this season, City should prove far too strong for the travelling side.

Coming off an impressive win last week, the Brisbane Roar will look to slide into third place on the ladder as they take on last-placed Adelaide United on Sunday at 17:00 (AEDT).

To end the week's fixtures, the Wellington Phoenix will travel away to face the Western Sydney Wanders in a very tough game to call, with both sides desperate for a win.

Expect a tough gritty affair Sunday 17:00 (AEDT) that may turn into a goal-fest later in the match.
