Bahrain to amend military court law to meet constitutional amendments

Source: Xinhua   2017-03-09 23:35:03

Manama, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain announced on Thursday that the military court law will be referred to the legislative authority for amendment to meet recent constitutional amendments, Bahrain News Agency reported.

The amendments that were passed this week by the parliament give the power to the military court to trial terrorists involved in major terrorism cases.

Head of the Legislation and Legal Iftaa Authority Abdullah Bin Hassan Al Buainain assured the public that the draft law will be amended in a way that allows military court to only look into major terrorism cases that endanger the safety of people and attacks against military and security personnel as part of Bahrain counter terrorism efforts.

He defended the amendments and referred to them as a must and are followed by many democratic countries to fight terrorism locally and internationally.

Bahrain opted for the amendment to deal with years of attacks against police personnel, homemade blasts on public roads and weapon trafficking.
