SEOUL, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Eight out of 10 South Koreans supported the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye ahead of the constitutional court's final ruling on the impeachment motion, a local survey showed Thursday.

According to a Realmeter survey, 76.9 percent of respondents said the impeachment motion must be upheld by the court, while 20.3 percent favored its rejection.

It was based on a poll of 508 voters conducted on Wednesday. It had 4.3 percentage points as a margin of error.

The court announced its plan on Wednesday to make a final ruling on the impeachment motion on Friday.

If six out of eight justices uphold the motion, President Park will be permanently removed from office immediately. If over three judges reject the bill, Park will be reinstated and regain presidential power.

Around 90 percent of liberal and moderate voters favored Park's impeachment, while the conservative voters were divided by half towards whether to oust the president or reinstate her.

Over 90 percent of those in their 20s and 30s favored the impeachment. Nearly 90 percent of those in their 40s favored it, with the figures among those in their 50s and 60s reaching 73.8 percent and 48.3 percent each.
