EU slams deadly attack at Kabul hospital

BRUSSELS, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Wednesday denounced the deadly attack at a hospital in Afghanistan's capital which killed at least 30 people.

Underlining that patients, visitors, and medical workers alike have been innocent victims of the terrorist attack, a spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU's diplomatic service, in a statement slammed the attack as "acts carried out in blind disregard also of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Convention".

"The EU stands by the Afghan authorities and people in the fight against terrorism, and remains committed to keep cooperating with the Afghan people to achieve stability, peace and prosperity," the spokesperson added.

More than 30 people were killed and over 50 others wounded after four suicide bombers struck Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital in fortified Wazir Akbar Khan diplomatic district Wednesday morning, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

More than 3,490 civilians were killed and over 7,920 others injured in conflict-related incidents across Afghanistan last year, according to figures released by the UNAMA.
