PRAGUE, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Reacting to a statement made earlier on Wednesday by Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern to punish EU member states that refuse to accept refugees by cutting EU subsidies granted to them, Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec dismissed the demand as nonsense.
In a press release, Chovanec said the Czech Republic rejected Kern's statement which is yet another incomprehensible step that divides the EU at a time when common solutions should be sought.
He said the Czech Republic provides sufficient aid for the regions refugees are coming from and in the European countries to which they are arriving.
The official added the Czech Republic was one of the countries that was the most active during the refugee crisis and it consistently provided assistance in conflict areas in other countries.
Kern's demand would mainly affect Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Chovanec said.
