ALGIERS, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Algerian counterterrorism troops on Wednesday discovered huge quantities of materials used in manufacturing explosives and bombs in the provinces of Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou, east the capital Algiers, said a statement of Defense Ministry.

"As part of the fight against terrorism, army units deployed in the woods of the locality of Azazga discovered five plastic barrels containing 150 liters of nitric acid, a hazardous substance used in the manufacturing of explosives," said the statement.

The source recalled that the operation followed the discovery of a large quantity of chemical products used in explosives manufacturing on Tuesday between Boumerdes and Tizi.

Meanwhile, counterterrorism units arrested five people over charges of providing support to terrorist groups in In Amenas, near the Libyan border, and in Tizi Ouzou, eastern Algiers.

Army troops also destroyed two terrorist bunkers in Boumerdes and Batna provinces, concluded the statement.
