BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday the Middle East situation is once again at a crucial crossroads of growing instability and the hope of peace.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the annual parliamentary session, Wang said China's view is that the regional situation must be pushed forward in the right direction.

In doing so, countries concerned must maintain the international consensus on fighting terrorism, adhere to the right goal of seeking a political settlement of hot issues, and put the UN in the driver's seat in the Middle East peace process, he said.

Wang said the Iranian nuclear agreement is a good example of settling disputes by political and diplomatic means, and called on all relevant parties to honor their commitment, fulfill their obligation, and effectively implement that agreement.

On Palestine, the Chinese foreign minister said the issue is "an open wound in the Middle East."

"Peace may be delayed but justice cannot be denied," Wang said.

He said China firmly supports a two-state solution, and will continue to do what it can to restart the peace talks.

Wang went on to say that China welcomes the King of Saudi Arabia to pay a state visit to China soon.

He said China hopes Saudi Arabia and Iran can settle their differences through equal and friendly consultations.

"China is a friend of both countries. So if they so desire, China will play its due role," he added.
