BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- China is working to shatter the illusions of offenders and make them realize there is no safe haven abroad, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday at a press conference.

Wang said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chinese embassies, consulates had assisted related authorities in securing the return of more than 2,500 graft and economic fugitives from about 90 countries and regions.

Among them, 38 were on a list of China's top 100 fugitives in an Interpol "red notice," Wang told a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress.

China had inked extradition treaties and judicial assistance treaties with some 70 counties, basically establishing a web of fugitive repatriation and asset recovery covering major countries, according to Wang.

China had sought to develop a consensus against corruption in the international community through hosting the APEC Beijing summit in 2014 and the G20 Hangzhou summit in 2016, Wang said.

Wang added that the resolve displayed by China and the progress made in this regard had been favorably reviewed by the international community.
