MADRID, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Alfonso Dastis said on Tuesday that "China is destined to play a vital role" in the new multipolar world order.
Dastis made the remarks during the forum "China and the leadership of the new World Order," jointly organized by the Spanish newspaper "Expansion" and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The world is currently in an "insufficient" phase of economic recovery which has given birth to "political radicalism," Dastis said, adding that as a result the model of globalization with its roots in the 1980s has collapsed to make way for a "new world order" which is "multipolar."
According to the diplomat, the leadership of this order has to be "generous and inclusive" and "open and positive" for the international community, while offering "development horizons which help to build a constructive globalization that will help us forget the suffering caused by the classical model."
The rise of China as a major power coincides with the "crisis of the contemporary model of globalization," he said.
Dastis admitted it is hard to predict how the world will change in the coming years, but he expects an order characterized by a "shared leadership which will work for a better world that is fair and more balanced."
The arrival of Donald Trump in the White House has speeded up the desire for "more and better Europe," something Dastis sees as positive, as the crisis of globalization has led to "isolationist discussions" in the world.
Three former Spanish foreign ministers, Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, Miguel Angel Moratinos and Josep Pique, also participated in the event.
Moratinos was positive about China's strategy, comparing it to "Tai Chi' with "slow, coordinated and very precise movements."
Chinese Ambassador to Spain Lu Fan closed the event, underlining that "China does not have the intention of controlling or substituting any other nations in the new world order," and its "economic achievements have brought benefits to the rest of the world."
He added that China has become the market of the world and Beijing would always support Spain and work with it as "it is better to build roads than to erect walls."
