DHAKA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- With the aim to pay respect to the contribution of women, national flag-carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate a special flight by all women on Wednesday to mark the International Women's Day.
The national flag carrier has taken the initiative to encourage and inspire women in the aviation sector to move forward matching up with other airlines globally, state-run news agency BSS reported Tuesday.
Biman spokesperson Shakil Meraj told the state-run news agency that the all-women special flight will be operated on Dhaka-Sylhet (some 241 km northeast of capital Dhaka)-Dhaka route Wednesday with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
"Captain Tania Reza and First Officer Antara will lead the BG-0603 flight with six female cabin crew," he said.
Besides, female security personnel and ground handling staff will be deployed for the flight, added Shakil Meraj.
He said the flight is scheduled to take off at 01.15 p.m. (local time) from the domestic terminal.
"Biman authority thinks such move would encourage the female to join the diversified aviation industry," said Shakil Meraj.
Biman has now 140 pilots of which nine are lady pilots. Besides, female employees are working with efficiency in ground service, engineering section and other departments of Biman.
Talking about the flight, First Officer Antara said they operate flight regularly, but this special flight on the special day would be an inspiration for the country's women for this challenging job.
Antara joined Biman in 2011 and gained experience of flying with Dash8-Q400 and Boeing 737-800 so far.
Now, she is dreaming of flying more and lead Biman's fleet from the front.
