BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will publish an editorial on Sunday, saying the people's congress must always stick to the correct political direction.
The year of 2017 will witness the opening of the 19th National Congress of the CPC, the top priority in the Party and state affairs.
"It is always the correct political direction for the people's congress to firmly uphold the authority as well as the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee with comrade Xi Jinping as the core, to ensure the CPC's lines, principles, policies and decisions be implemented, to ensure the CPC's proposals become the will of the state through legislative procedures," the editorial says.
It adds that under the Party leadership with Xi as the core, the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) and its standing committee has fulfilled it duty as the highest state power organ, displaying the vitality and advantages of the people's congress system.
To achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the country will need the institutional safeguard of socialism with Chinese characteristics, it says, adding the people's congress must continue offering support to state governance system and capacity.
More than 60 years of practices have fully demonstrated " the people's congress system can ensure the effective governance of the country by the people under the CPC leadership, the pooling of resources for great undertakings, the effective protection of people's rights and and interests and freedom, as well as the safeguarding of national unity, ethnic solidarity, and social harmony and stability," it says.
