Macedonian exports rise 9.6 pct in Jan.

SKOPJE, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Macedonia's exports increased 9.6 percent year on year in January to 343.8 million U.S. dollars, official data revealed on Friday.

Total foreign trade amounted to 807.4 million U.S. dollars in January, according to State Statistical Office.

Imports amounted to 463.6 million U.S. dollars in January, up 20.4 percent year on year from a year ago, creating a trade deficit of around 120 million U.S. dollars in January.

Exports growth was driven by precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, ferro­nickel and clothes.

The most significant products of imports were the platinum and platinum alloys, unwrought or in powder form, petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form and electricity.

The most important trade partners of Macedonia were Germany, Greece, Britain, China and Serbia.
